What is the “New You Battle”?

Do you have a habit in life that you’d like to improve, but you need more motivation to make it happen? The “New You Battle” can help. All you need is two containers (or jars, vases, etc.). You’ll label one container “Old You” and slowly move items into a container that you’ll label “New You”. This will be your way of tracking how you are voting on your new identity every day. If you back slide, you will move items from the “new you” container back to the “old you” container. You can also make more specific rules for what counts for your battle. Check out the downloadable “worksheet” and “badge reflection” sheet below, if you’d like to have a printable version of this battle.

More Optional Ideas:

  • To help with the motivation you can have a prize selected for when the “old you” container is empty.

  • Consider competing against a friend or family member to make the battle more exciting.

  • Decorating the containers can add an element of fun too, and it is a great way to get started. Then you can enjoy displaying the containers in your house too, so you look at them more often!

How can I get motivated to end a bad habit?

Habits don’t improve in one day. They take time, so sometimes it’s hard to see how much progress you are making until you’ve already developed the habit. When you’re in the thick of creating a new habit the lows can be discouraging and the improvements can seem pointless. This battle can help you see a visual representation of what’s happening in real-time, so you don’t let your progress get overlooked. You deserve more recognition than you give yourself credit for. We can be hard on ourselves, but with a positive attitude and hope you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish by not giving up.

What are some reward ideas for accomplishing good habits?
